Technology

We are proud to have played a role – however small – in the technology revolution. We invested in and supported Facebook, Twitter, Spotify and Airbnb at an early stage and we helped to establish a venture capital firm in San Francisco that is backing some of the most exciting tech firms coming out of Silicon Valley.  The technology space continually amazes and inspires us.

Technology disrupts markets and transforms enterprises and communities. We have spent a lot of time meeting technology entrepreneurs in Silicon Valley and around the world and we are continually inspired by their vision and enthusiasm. We support highly promising, early-stage ventures.  It is why we were among the first investment firms to back companies such as Facebook, Spotify, Uber, Airbnb and Didi and why we helped to found 1984 Ventures, a California-based venture capital fund, in 2017. We also have invested in IHS Towers, one of Africa’s leading mobile phone network providers.

Education

We believe business and investment can be forces for good and we have consistently recognised and championed education as the most important driver of social mobility globally.

Healthcare

There is a pressing need for high-quality consumer healthcare across Africa and the Middle East. Dynasty Group Holdings Limited (Dynasty), a joint venture between Man Capital and Integrated Diagnostics Holdings (IDH), partnered with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) to invest in a diagnostics platform across the Middle East and Africa. The first investment for Dynasty Group was in Echo-Scan, one of the leading diagnostics players in Nigeria.

Logistics

We believe global trade creates economic growth and helps to end global poverty. In 2012 we acquired Vanguard Logistics Services (OTS), an important enabler of global trade as one of the world’s leading less-than-container-load freight services providers. Founded in 1978, Vanguard has over 120 offices in more than 30 countries, employing over 3,000 people and offering in excess of 1,200 direct services every week.

Sports

We have long been passionate about sports and its power to bring together communities, create opportunities and address public health challenges. The global Right To Dream organisation and the Danish football club FC Nordsjælland are our principal investments in this space. Through these partnerships, we seek to create opportunities for talented boys and girls who lack access to schooling and sport.

Energy

We are proud to be investing in the future of energy, including solar and wind power. We believe that the decarbonisation of the global electricity supply is the most effective way to tackle climate change and we are playing our part in supporting the path to net zero. We are particularly focused on the energy transition in Africa, where almost half of the population is still without access to electricity.

Oil & Gas

The energy sector drives the global economy. We have invested in Millennium Offshore Services (MOS), which subsequently merged with Seafox Group to form the world’s largest jack-up ASV / offshore support company.  The combined group employs over 600 people in Europe, MENA and the Asia-Pacific region.

Real Estate

We have invested opportunistically in real estate projects around the world, including a residential and commercial space in St James’s Square in London, a mixed-use development in St Louis, Missouri, USA, and a major retail development in East Peoria, Illinois, USA.

Telecoms

Many parts of Africa still lack world-class telecommunications infrastructure. That is why we have invested in IHS Towers, Africa’s leading independent mobile network infrastructure provider. IHS has operations in Nigeria, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Zambia and Rwanda, and manages well over 20,000 towers in the region.

Financial Investments

All businesses need capital and expertise to achieve their potential. To gain access to early-stage technology businesses, Man Capital helped launch a venture capital firm dedicated to investing in companies that apply technology to large, established industries, like real estate, logistics and finance. California-based 1984 Ventures backs businesses in early-seed rounds and surrounds its investee company’s management teams with seasoned entrepreneurs, providing them with the capital and the expertise to reach their potential.
